Registering yourseIf as registered nurse in Australia through "Outcomes-based assessment" has been made easy and cost-efficient compared to the former registration pathway bridging "IRON" program. We advise nurses on how to obtain certificafe of employment and reference letters from their employers that are acceptable by AHPRA.  We advise students of the important documents to secure when submitting application for OBA.

What are the pre-requisites:

1.) WORK EXPERIENCE OF ATLEAST 450 HOURS PAID FULL TIME OR PART TIME EQUIVALENT. HOWEVER, IT IS IMPORTANT TO COMPLETE 3 YEARS OF WORK EXPERIENCE TO QUALIFY FOR WORK VISA SPONSORSHIP OR PERMANENT RESIDENCY VISA.

2.) ENGLISH LANGUAGE EXAM: 

IELTS ACADEMIC 7 In all components or combination two test sittings within 6 months or less.

PTE 68 score in all components or combination two test sittings within 6 months or less.

OET B score in all components or or combination two test sittings within 6 months or less.

4.) PRACTICAL ASSESSMENT IN ADELAIDE HEALTH

OBA step by step process:

1. Conduct a self check. It is free to do a self check in the AHPRAaccount website to verify If you are eligible for registration directly or requires OBA assessment.
2. Once eligibility is confirmed, the AHPRA will send a referral letter to take the OBA assessment. There is a non-refundable fee of $640 if you decide to proceed with the application. 
3. Complete the part 1 Australian healthcare context course that is self pace and online. You can do this anywhere or in your own country.
4. Portfolio stage. The documents will be assessed for you to take NCLEX-RN. You need to submit documents to qualify for MCQ exam or NCLEX-RN exam Australia.
5. NCLEX-RN exam can be taken in Pearson vue for a registration fee of $200 USD and $150 international scheduling fee.
6. Once you pass the NCLEX-RN exam, you can now proceed to stage 2: Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE). There is an exam fee of $4000. The venue of the exam will be conducted in Adelaide health simulation. You have to arrange a suitable visa to fly to Australia. Ensure that this has been arrange prior to stage 2 OSCE. Usually a visitor visa SC 600 or student visa SC 500 is taken to complete OBA.
7. Once you pass the OSCE, you can now register yourself  as a registered nurse in Australia through AHPRA. There is a registration fee of $175 and an application fee of $300. 
8. Start looking for your employer and work with a valid visa

The overall expenses for this is not more than $6000 dollars excluding visa and other expenses which is more cost-efficient than the Bridging program which would cost  $12500 average for the tuition fee only.

A student visa holder in Australia can legally work 20 hours a week while class is in session and unlimited hours while on vacation or end of the class session. 

The most interesting part is that a student applying for a student visa in Australia can bring dependent partner or family members in Australia. The dependent member can work 20 hours a week or unlimited hours on vacation.  A family member is your partner, or your partner's dependent child who is unmarried and has not turned 18 years of age.

The dependent visa holder does not need to engage in studies by being a student dependent visa.
